First-Time Buyer - December 8, 2004

Dear Patricia;

I am a first-time home buyer. What do I need to know before I begin seriously looking for a home to purchase?

Joseph M., Toronto, Ontario

Dear Joseph;

The first thing you should do is visit a mortgage broker, or your bank, to get pre-approved for a mortgage. By doing this, you will know exactly how much you are able to spend on the purchase of your new home. Also, look at homes in the neighbourhood(s) in which you are thinking about buying. This will give you an idea about the types of homes available in your price range, and will help you to be able to recognize a great opportunity when you are ready to purchase. I would be pleased to refer you to a mortgage broker, and show you homes in your desired neighbourhoods. Please contact me if you have any other questions. I would love to help you find your very first home!
